Out of The Blue Training

I have 20 years of experience working in An Garda Síochána, where I trained over 2,000 Gardaí in interview techniques. I also the author of three books: The Guardians - 100 years of An Garda Síochána, Pearse Street 100 and A History of Kevin Street Garda Station.

I am passionate about helping frontline workers to transition to new careers. I understand that fulfilling one's career goals within the Emergency Services or Military, as well as leaving or retiring from them, can be a daunting task. I am committed to providing individuals with the support and guidance they need to succeed.

Ben Griffin MSc F.ISRM

SECTRN

I served in the Royal Military Police from 1992 to 1996. That experience developed the discipline, situational awareness and practical leadership that have shaped my subsequent career in aviation operations, security and training.

I founded SECTRN in 2022 after nearly two decades working across aviation operations, security and training. Having progressed from frontline ramp operations through station management, aviation security instruction and senior security leadership, I repeatedly saw the same problem: regulations and procedures only work when they make sense to the people applying them. SECTRN was created to bridge that gap. We provide practical aviation security training and consultancy grounded in real operational experience, helping organisations strengthen governance, develop Security Management Systems, manage risk and improve security performance without losing sight of day-to-day operations.

FSH Training Ltd

I have built my career across both the aviation and emergency services sectors. I began in the aviation industry, progressing from Ground Operations to Ground Operations Trainer, where I developed expertise in safety management, compliance, human factors, operational procedures and staff development. I now serve as a frontline Firefighter and Paramedic with Dublin Fire Brigade, responding to a wide range of emergencies and major incidents. These diverse experiences have shaped my approach to training, combining structured best practice with practical, real-world application.

FSH Training was founded to bridge the gap between compliance-based training and real-world application. Drawing on my experience in both aviation and frontline emergency services, I wanted to create training that is engaging, practical and relevant to the environments people work in every day. By combining the procedural discipline of aviation with the operational insight gained as a Firefighter and Paramedic, FSH Training delivers high-quality, compliant courses that build confidence, competence and preparedness. Today, we support healthcare providers, schools, childcare services, businesses and community organisations across Ireland, helping people develop the knowledge and skills to respond effectively when it matters most.

Frank Black

Optimal Assurance

I served for 11 years in the Irish Defence Forces with the 2nd Cavalry Squadron, including overseas deployments to Kosovo, Lebanon and Syria. My service developed my skills in leadership, operational planning, risk management and working effectively in demanding environments. After leaving the Defence Forces, I joined Dublin Fire Brigade, where I have served since 2016 across frontline emergency response and specialist health, safety and quality roles. I am also a qualified paramedic and work as an Event Medical Coordinator at major public and mass-gathering events.

I started the business after recognising that many organisations need more than generic policies and box-ticking compliance. They need practical advice from someone who understands how safety, quality and governance work in real operational environments. The business was built on the experience I gained across the Defence Forces, emergency services and major-event medical operations, supported by professional qualifications in health and safety, quality management, emergency care and risk. Originally focused on health and safety consultancy, the business evolved into Optimal Assurance to reflect its broader purpose: helping organisations manage risk, strengthen governance, improve quality and prepare for emergencies. My approach is straightforward and practical—understand how the organisation actually operates, identify what matters most, and develop solutions that work in practice as well as on paper.
